    • A single-channel terrestrial telescope built around the smallest objective diameter and shortest possible barrel length that still yields a usable image — every design decision is weighted toward pocketability over optical performance

    • Most designs use a roof prism erecting system rather than Porro, since a roof prism's in-line light path allows a slimmer, more foldable/collapsible body than a Porro prism's offset path would permit

    • Objective diameters of 16–25 mm keep the exit pupil (objective ÷ magnification) small, meaning image brightness in low light is noticeably limited compared to a larger field or full-size monocular — a direct, accepted trade-off for the size reduction
